I am trying to enthuse my students about paining images with words. I will use these prompts tomorrow and see what gems I can unearth from the depths of my students' brains! Some are very talented, and I can't wait to see what comes up : )
ReplyDeleteAs a novice, I regularly turn to others' writing for truly inspirational metaphorical comparisons. I love the descriptions in Memoirs of a Geisha; for example, in the very beginning Sayuri describes her father's elderly face as, " ... very heavily creased .. it wasn't his face any longer, but more like a tree that had nests in all the branches" (10).
ReplyDeleteIn a description of herself as a beauty who originated in a "dumpy" place like Yoriodo, she calls herself "tea made in a bucket".
-Just two of dozens of fresh new ways to make comparisons- this book if full of them!
